Borobudur Temple is a Buddhist temple located in Magelang City, Central Java Province. The location of Borobudur Temple is about 100 kilometers from Semarang, 86 kilometers from Surakarta, and 40 kilometers from DI Yogyakarta. Borobudur temple comes from the words bara and budur. In its terms, bara means the monastery complex and the word budur has the upper meaning. So, Borobudur is located on a hill as a monastery complex that is truly magnificent. Borobudur Temple is a Buddhist temple and the largest monument in the world. Borobudur Temple is one of the wonders in the world. Borobudur Temple was founded in the 8th century during the reign of the Syailendra dynasty, which was the dynasty of the Buddhist Empire. The founder of the Borobudur Temple was King Samaratungga of the Syailendra dynasty. This temple was built around 824 M  and was completed around 900 M. The architect who helped build this temple was Gunadharma. Borobudur Temple was originally a building design in the form of a very large single stupa that crowned its peak. However, due to the consideration that the stupa would be too large and heavy which poses a risk of danger if placed on the top, then the stupa was dismantled and replaced with three small sized stupas and one main stupa. The magnificent building is divided into ten levels in the form of punden terraces. The philosophy contained in the ten levels of this building is to symbolize the stages and processes of human life. The building has six square terraces on which has a circular courtyard. In line with Mahayana Buddhism, anyone who intends to reach the Buddha level must go through each stage of life. The base of Borobudur is called Kamadhatu which symbolizes humans still bound by lust. The four levels above are called Rupadhatu which symbolizes humans who have been able to free themselves from lust but are still bound by form and form. On this terrace, the Buddha statue is placed in an open space, while the three levels above are where the terrace Buddha stupa is limited in a dome with a whole called Arupadhatu which symbolizes humans who have been free of lust, appearance and form. The uppermost part is called Arupa, which symbolizes Nirvana, where the Buddha resides. The temple walls are also decorated with approximately 2,672 panels and there are 504 Buddha statues. The main stupa of Borobudur is the largest located in the middle and becomes the crown at the top of this building. The peak stupa is surrounded by three rows of 72 hollow stupas that have Buddha statues that sit cross-legged amidst perfect lotus flowers with mudras. Because of the grandeur and majesty of this temple, UNESCO designated Borobudur Temple as one of the world's cultural heritages. Because of that, Borobudur Temple is always visited by many foreign tourists.
